Activ and genU are merging in what will be a sector-leading transformation of national scale, bringing more programs and services to West Australians living with disability.
This merger will bring together, and optimise, the best of both organisations and increase opportunities available for our customers to live the life they choose.
Activ will become a part of genU from 1 July 2024, however, will continue to operate as Activ as the transition will be implemented progressively over a 12-month period.

Want to learn more about genU services and support in Western Australia?
Activ and genU are closely aligned in values and history. Both organisations were founded by a group of parents wanting more for their children living with disability. Activ was established in 1951 and genU in 1952 – jointly accounting for almost 150 years of experience.
We are also both driven by missions around enabling each person we support to live the life they choose.
genU already has a presence in WA through MatchWorks, disability employment services, and registered training organisation genU Training. The merger will help to build on the quality services already offered and create more opportunities for customers, their families and carers.
Both organisations are engaged in and contribute to a diverse range of vibrant regional communities. Within these, we want to expand our service profiles, range of service locations and organisational sustainability.
The merger will bring:
- Enhanced services and better outcomes for customers
- A wider range of career opportunities for staff
- Significant shared learnings, expanded programs and efficiencies
- Greater sector influence as one of the largest five NDIS providers in Australia
- A stronger financial position to ensure ongoing sustainability.
It will provide more choice and opportunities for clients and staff.

Our story started in 1952 when a small group of Geelong parents dreamed of a world for their children where disability would not stand in the way of their opportunities and potential. Today, our 4000+ workforce provides support and services across Australia.
We’re also a ‘profit for purpose’ organisation and reinvest back into programs and services that help build more inclusive communities.
Activ and genU are closely aligned in values and history. Both organisations were founded by a group of parents wanting more for their children living with disability.
Like Activ Foundation, genU has a rich history of empowering people to live their best possible lives. Our values – Welcoming; Innovative; Safe; Empowered; Respectful – all support our vision and shape our culture of inclusion.
We look forward to welcoming more Western Australian customers to the genU family and empowering even more people with disability to reach their full potential.
Nothing, in terms of the day-to-day operation of Activ, is changing immediately.
All services will continue to be offered to Activ customers by the same people, in the same places. We’re committed to honouring our close connections with the people and communities we support and encourage you to reach out to your local team with any queries.
Local WA leadership will be retained when Activ becomes part of genU with two WA-based Board of Directors and the appointment of an Executive Director Activ.
