COVID-19 Update – Victoria

UPDATED COVID RESTRICTIONS

Metropolitan Melbourne

As of 5th August 2021, the Victorian Government announced Victoria would go into lockdown.

There are only five reasons to leave your home:

•  Shopping for necessary goods and services.
•  Caregiving or compassionate reasons.
•  Authorised work or permitted education.
•  Exercise.
•  Receive a vaccination.

genU will continue to operate as an essential service.

Our centres and services will remain open for all participants; however, we will provide these services in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Department of Health and Human services (DHHS). Access to supports may be impacted depending on the service you receive please see below for service-specific information. 

Regional Victoria

As of 11.59pm on Thursday 9th September, lockdown restrictions will be lifted in Regional Victoria.

There are no requirements to stay at your home. 

Our centres and services will now recommence with in-person supports where applicable under current restrictions. Please see service-specific information below. 

Contacting genU 

We have implemented an after hours COVID-19 Hotline available between 5:00pm and 8:00am that is able to answer any specific questions you may have. Contact 1300 558 368.

Disability Supports

Community Participation – Group Activities

In Melbourne, Participate is open for:

  • People whose parents, family, or primary carers who are essential workers.
  • Participants who are unable to remain at home without support.
  • People who, by not attending the centre would result in other disability supports being required.
  • Not attending the centre would result in significant impacts on the participants’ mental health, disability or behaviours.

In Regional Victoria, Participate will resume with COVID-safe practices:

  • 1 person every 4m2
  • Face coverings must be carried at all times.
  • Face coverings must be worn indoors and outdoors except if at home or if an exception applies

Regular programs may be changed in accordance with Government direction.

Employment Pathways

All participants can be provided with online or phone supports.

In Regional Victoria, services will resume normal COVID-safe practices.  Please speak with your local team leader or manager.

Individual Support Services

Services will proceed as usual due to being classified as an essential service. 

In Melbourne, community access will revert to be an in-home support unless you are needing to leave your home in accordance with one of the five reasons as directed by government.

Support Coordination

Support coordination remains open – however only essential face to face meeting will occur, with all other support occurring via only or phone support.

Respite

Open for:

  • People whose family, or primary carers are essential workers.
  • People who are unable to remain at home without support.
  • People who, by not attending would result in other supports being required.
  • Not attending respite would result in significant impacts on the person’s mental health, disability or behaviours.
  • All new referrals will be assessed on a individual basis.

Independent Lives

Independent Lives will resume normal COVID-safe practices. 

Outreach Services

Outreach will resume normal COVID-safe practices. 

Allied Health

Eric Hart Allied Health is open for essential face to face health practitioner appointments. Staff will contact these clients directly. All appointments will be indoor and 1:1 – no indoor group programs.

Walking groups will recommence with a maximum of 10 people, as well as Zoom and/or outdoor exercise sessions. Further information and links to Zoom sessions will be provided to clients for this.

No indoor group programs can be provided at this stage.

Mandatory masks, social distancing, QR check in, health attestation check in will continue.

Aged Care Specific Programs

Costa House

Aged Care Respite including day and overnight

Open for:

  • People whose family, or primary carers are essential workers.
  • People who are unable to remain at home without support.
  • People who, by not attending would result in other supports being required.
  • Not attending the centre would result in significant impacts on the person’s mental health, disability or behaviours.

Regular programs may be changed in accordance with Government direction.

Virtual social groups are available to support you to stay connected.

In Regional Victoria, face to face groups are operating in line with restrictions.

ISS Aged Care

All services are considered essential and will continue as rostered.  Community access will be able to occur for one of the five identified reasons as outlined previously. Please call 1800 752 273 and press option 1 between 8am and 4pm.

Home Care Packages

The team will conduct home visits only if essential/urgent.  The team are still available by phone or email.

Mask Wearing

It is a requirement that all genU staff and participants be wearing a mask whilst at a centre or while receiving supports. Participants who are unable to wear a mask must have an exemption from a GP.

If you require a translator or interpreter, please let your local coordinator know, and genU can work with you to access these services.

  • Temperature checks on arrival
  • Strict hand hygiene
  • Mask wearing.
