Our Melaluka appeal is raising funds to complete much‐needed landscaping in our purpose built respite house, Melaluka, that opened in 2012.
Melaluka caters to five individuals at any one time whose families seek respite from their caregiving role – a role that can be highly demanding and stressful. Respite care for loved ones provides short‐term breaks for caregivers that can relieve their stress, renew their energy and restore a sense of balance to their lives. It also provides a period of freedom from caregiving duties, while loved ones continue to receive the care they require in a safe, caring and professional environment such as Melaluka.
The house caters to individuals aged 18+ with a range of support needs and provides for three fully hoisted bedrooms with specialised beds and an accessible and hoisted bathroom. The house is completely accessible and currently we support over 70 families in Geelong and surrounding areas.
Since the opening of the house there has been one key element missing ‐ a functional and fun outdoor area. Currently the back yard is an empty space that doesn’t provide any stimulation or opportunity for residents to spend time outside.
Your support of our Melaluka appeal will help us to change this.
We are raising $20,000 to makeover the backyard area with accessible exercise and fitness equipment, a bike trail, herb and vegetable patches and a sensory garden.
We’d like to thank the following individuals and organisations who have already contributed to this appeal: Norm Lyons, Tarax Charitable Trust, Jean Williamson, Alex Murdoch Foundation, Grill’d, Freedman Dann Trust and Lord Mayors Charitable Trust
