genU’s Tara’s Dream Appeal is raising funds to build much-needed housing for people with a disability in the Bellarine area.
The housing development, to be built on land granted by the City of Greater Geelong, will provide fully accessible accommodation and enhance the lives of young people living with a disability.
The proposed housing comprises a five-bedroom house plus staff accommodation on one block, a two-bedroom and two one-bedroom units on the second block and a communal outdoor living area.
Tara McGowan was just 23 years of age and in her third year of studying to becoming a Special Needs Teacher when she tragically passed away in May 2015, from an asthma attack.
Tara was passionate about enhancing the lives of those with special needs and working towards moving young people out of nursing homes and into residential facilities within the community.
With the support of genU, her family are endeavouring to keep Tara’s Dream alive through this project which will truly champion our mission of building inclusive communities.
