Christmas came early for the genU community in Hobart, with a festive celebration uniting over 100 clients, families and staff.
The Big Day Out, held at the Hobart Function and Conference Centre in November, was a joyful event filled with delicious food, fun activities and a surprise visit from Santa. Guests enjoyed a burger bar, giant games, lively dance competitions and exciting giveaways in a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere.
genU Community Regional Manager Laura Nichols said the free lunchtime event brought together genU clients, families and employees to enjoy each other’s company in a festive atmosphere.
“We wanted to spread some early Christmas cheer and also celebrate our team and the work they have done for our genU clients throughout the year,” Ms Nichols said. “These days are all about community connection and inclusion and building independence among our clients in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.
“Oakdale Lodge residents had lots of fun, and were happy to see clients from other areas and re-connected with staff they had not seen for a long time.”
Since merging with Li-Ve Tasmania in 2023, genU has strengthened its presence in the state, continuing to deliver essential services while introducing new initiatives like training programs for jobseekers and volunteer opportunities.
genU CEO Clare Amies said events like the Big Day Out reflect the organisation’s commitment to fostering meaningful relationships across Tasmania.
“We’re thrilled to see the success of events like these and look forward to creating more opportunities for connection and inclusion,” she said.
Corporate partner WAI Group also contributed to the event’s success. Managing Director Paul Stanley emphasised the importance of their partnership with genU.
“Our collaboration celebrates accessibility and inclusivity, showcasing the impact of quality Specialist Disability Accommodation housing,” he said.
This celebration of community and connection marks a bright start to the holiday season for genU in Tasmania.
