COVID UPDATE – Victoria’s Circuit Breaker Lockdown

Dear Participants, friends, families and carers of genU,

We write to you to provide an update in regards to Victoria’s Circuit Breaker Lockdown. As of 11.59pm tonight, Friday the 12th of February, Victoria will enter into a 5 day Circuit Breaker lockdown.

Following advice from Victoria’s public health experts, the whole of Victoria will move to circuit-breaker lockdown from 11:59pm tonight until 11:59pm on Wednesday, 17 February.

Please visit this link for a full list of restrictions:

While these restrictions present challenges for genU participants and staff, genU will continue to provide essential supports during this time. It is important to note that group day programs will be paused until the end of the circuit breaker lockdown. However, genU want to reinforce that we are here for you, and will work with you to ensure you are supported during this time. Centre-based day services will remain open for essential supports only.

The following criteria outlines where essential supports can continue to be offered at a genU Participate centre:

  • A participants’ parents, family or primary carers are essential worker.
  • A participant does not have capacity to stay at home without supports.
  • Not attending the centre would result in other disability supports from other organisations being required.
  • Not attending the centre would result in significant impacts on a participants’ mental health (days/times may have to be adapted to minimise any unnecessary contact).

Essential participants attending a genU centre, will need to significantly limit their interactions with one another. Where possible, participants will be supported by a limited staff cohort.

As you will be aware, COVID developments require a rapidly changing and fast response, and we may need to make further changes in line with any updated government directions. If we are required to make any further changes, we will be in contact with participants and families individually to discuss these with you.

At this current time, the above changes will be in effect until Wednesday the 17th of February at 11.59pm.

Please stay safe at this time, genU will continue to provide you with suitable and safe supports within government directions.

If you have any questions or concerns and wish to speak to someone over the weekend please call 1300 558 368.

Regards,

Glen Snowden
