A professional collaboration with genU Business Enterprises has helped accomplished Head Chef, Stewart, save time in his busy kitchen at Edge Geelong.
“genU said we could outsource elements of food preparation to genU so we could save time in the kitchen while making a difference in our community by supporting stable employment for people living with disability,” Stewart recalled.
Having previously worked with a catering company focused on positive social impact, the new idea was of interest to Stewart. Utilising genU’s commercial food preparation services with locally sourced Victorian produce prepared in a HACCP-certified kitchen in North Geelong has improved kitchen operations and given the busy Head Chef more time to develop the business.
“Streamlining the food preparation of items like salads, pre-cut vegetables, fresh fruit and some function specific food has been hugely beneficial,” he said.
“It allows us to save time, simplify wage costs and focus our efforts on innovating our menu items, employee training and growing the business.”
“Having the team from genU visit our venue, meet our kitchen team and try the food using the ingredients they have provided to us has also been a highlight. Meeting these individuals is such a pleasure and motivates us to continue to work alongside genU, after seeing the positive impact it has.”
Stewart encourages other businesses to find ways to benefit their community and their organisation.
“Think outside the box and don’t be afraid to give things a try.”
