genU Members vote for new Directors to join Board at AGM

Two new Directors have joined the genU Board following its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 12 November, and Board Chair Ingrid Williams was re-elected.

Members cast their votes to fill three vacancies on the Board of Directors. Candidates Kellie Dean and Daryl Starkey were appointed to the Board for three-year terms. Ms Williams was successful in being re-appointed, also for a three-year term.

Current Board Chair Ms Williams was delighted to be re-elected for a second term.

“I am immensely proud of what we have achieved in the past year, and how we have started to transform genU and reposition it for a sustainable future,” she said.

“We are excited to deliver on genU’s Strategy 2030, which will deliver better outcomes for our clients and help empower them to reach their full potential.”

Ms Williams welcomed the new Directors into their roles to assist with the Board responsibilities and overseeing genU’s corporate governance.

“Your diverse skillset and expertise will be a tremendous asset for genU as we embark on our next chapter,” Ms Willams said.

Ms Williams thanked all Board Directors for their collective efforts throughout the year, as genU continued towards its aspiration to build genuinely inclusive communities, and to support and empower people with disability.

“Thank you also to our Chief Executive Officer Clare Amies, the Executive team, our wonderful team of staff, and volunteers, for their dedication and commitment to our clients and to genU,” she said.

Ms Williams acknowledged outgoing Directors, David Bartlett, Kris Peach and Leanne Meehan, for their time and considerable input during their terms.

“On behalf of genU, I want to thank you for your outstanding contributions to the Board, and importantly, the significant roles you played helping identify and shape our future direction during a challenging period of change,” Ms Williams said.

Well-known Geelong executive and advocate Elaine Carbines AM was recently appointed to the Board to fill the casual vacancy created when Ms Meehan resigned just before the AGM. Ms Carbines will serve a 12-month term.

At the AGM, Members were presented with the 2024 Annual Report, released last month, which included the organisation’s highlights, significant positive outcomes for clients, and financial result for the 2023-2024 year.

Members also heard firsthand from genU clients sharing their personal journey with genU and had the opportunity to reflect on the key milestones depicting genU’s evolution from 1952 to today, which showcased genU from its early days and the growth and change the organisation has experienced building on its legacy.

Ms Williams also thanked Members for their support throughout the year and their commitment to making a difference to the people genU serve.

“I know we are all here for a shared purpose, to enrich the lives of our clients, and it’s important we never lose sight of that,” Ms Williams said.
