In February 2023, not-for-profit organisation genU informed Victoria Police of suspected fraud targeting genU’s finances, following an initial internal investigation triggered by suspicious activity relating to accounts being wrongfully charged to the organisation.
Victoria Police has arrested a man today as part of their investigation into the allegations.
genU chief executive officer Clare Amies said genU is extremely disappointed to have been targeted in this way and has been proud that it hasn’t affected genU’s services and its spirit.
“For someone to allegedly take advantage of a not-for-profit organisation who provides important supports and services to vulnerable community members is disgraceful,” said Ms Amies.
“We remain strong and have incredible employees across Australia who continue to provide high-quality services and demonstrate unwavering commitment to our clients, their families and carers, and to our purpose to enrich the lives of others.”
“This has not and will not impact our day-to-day service delivery or the way we conduct our business.”
“I am pleased the investigation is progressing, and we will continue to work with Victoria Police to ensure justice is served.”
During the period of suspected fraudulent activity, which is believed to have occurred over five years, all genU’s funded services to clients were delivered and client contracts fulfilled. genU ensured Federal and State government agencies, regulatory authorities and all its stakeholders were aware of the matter.
The situation did not impact genU’s service delivery, clients, the claiming of National Disability Insurance Scheme payments, or any other funds received for client services.
