Reduce your feelings of isolation and develop your social skills!

At genU, we’ll connect you with local support services including specialist mental health services and government assistance through the Independent Lives program.

Grow Independence

The Independent Lives program helps you build your independence. We focus on capability building and peer mentoring. We start with a skills assessment so we understand what you can do and what you want to learn in the areas of daily living.

We’ll develop an individualised plan to improve your daily living skills in 1-on-1 or group-based activities such as:

  • Cooking and healthy eating
  • Independent living
  • Travel training
  • Social skills
  • Money handling and budgeting

We’ll support you to make value for money decisions and get quotes for major purchases. You might be working full time or part-time with an employer of your choice. Whatever your financial situation, you’ll have the choice and agency to set your own budget and stick to it.

This can help you plan for the future, engage in recreational activities, or even save for a lovely holiday!

Build Community Connections

Enjoy life in the community and pursue your own interests in sport, entertainment, recreational activities, hobbies and community groups.

With key skill-building activities, get empowered to form strong friendships at work and in the local community.

If you’d like, you can meet with other clients in your neighbourhood, attend monthly dinners and other group celebrations, such as Christmas dinners and Christmas in July.

Maintain Good Health

Building your resilience and adopting positive strategies is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

We’ll support you to look after your health and engage fully with the public and private health system. This can include your GP, specialists, and allied health practitioners such as podiatrists, physiotherapists and dieticians if you require them. You seek advice from counsellors if needed.

Our supports can also be related to fitness; you might attend a gym or take part in a wide range of other healthy lifestyle activities. Individual Lives provides access to health and dietary advice, so you can make the most out life!
