Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Whether you’re living on your own or sharing with others, our team is here around the clock to support your daily routines, build your confidence and help you do more of the things you enjoy.

With SIL, we support you with tasks like cooking, cleaning, personal care and getting to appointments. But more importantly, we walk alongside you as you explore new opportunities, try new skills and shape the lifestyle you want.

How SIL works

SIL is funded through Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life in your NDIS plan, and covers the staffing support you receive at home. Your rent, utilities and other day-to-day expenses are funded separately. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), if you need it, is also assessed and funded on its own.

What SIL support looks like

Every person is different, so we tailor your support to suit your goals, preferences and routines. This might include:

• Cleaning, laundry and household tasks
• Planning and cooking meals
• Personal care, including showering and dressing
• Getting to appointments or activities
• Developing independent living skills
• Building confidence with public transport
• Trying new hobbies, interests and community activities.

Your home, your decisions

At genU, your voice matters. You’re supported to be part of day-to-day decisions about your home — from household routines to how you like things done. In shared homes, we help create a space where everyone’s preferences are respected, and everyone feels comfortable.

Finding the right home, and the right housemates

If you’re searching for a place to live, we can help. We work closely with you to understand what you want in a home, the support you need and what kind of housemates you’d feel most comfortable with. Before moving in, we’ll arrange meet-ups so you can get to know the people and the support team, giving you time to feel settled and confident.

If you already have a home you love, that’s great, we can provide the in-home SIL supports you need right where you are.
