Celebrating Connection on International Day of People with Disability

Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 Australians with disability (19%) aged 15–64 experience social isolation? That’s double the rate of those without disability (9.5%). These numbers represent more than statistics, they reveal the challenging reality faced by many people with disability. Social isolation can significantly impact mental and physical well-being, but building meaningful connections can help break down these barriers.

On 3 December 2024, we come together to mark International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). For us, this day is about more than raising awareness -it’s a celebration of the achievements, resilience and invaluable contributions people with disability bring to our community.

At genU, we know that IDPwD isn’t just a single day on the calendar. It’s an ongoing call to action – a chance to reflect on how we can create a more inclusive, accessible society where everyone feels seen, supported, respected and valued. With 5.5 million Australians living with disability, our mission is clear: to build a community that thrives through connection and inclusion.

Celebrating Connection: Stories of Impact at genU

We’ve been lucky enough to witness the incredible power of connection firsthand. This year, to celebrate IDPwD, we’re sharing stories of transformative relationships from within our community. Through a series of videos, we highlight the moments that show how small acts of support can grow into life-changing bonds.
