Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Fostering Independence

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a support service designed to empower individuals by fostering independence through assistance with daily activities and skill development. This entails receiving paid personal support for tasks like personal care, meal preparation, and household management. SIL funding is typically designated for individuals who need round-the-clock support in a shared living setting.

This support could be On Site Share Supports (OSS) or On-Call Overnight Monitoring (OOM) in both Victoria and Tasmania.

On Site Shared Supports (OSS)

On-Site Share Support (OSS) is accessible 24 /7, with staff present on-site and available to all tenants. Operating as your backup supports, the OSS staff remain onsite both during the day and also available overnight. As an on-call service, OSS allows you to request assistance as needed, with a genU Disability Support Worker promptly attending your apartment as needed. Utilising assistive technology, you can easily call for assistance. It’s important to note that OSS does not substitute or replace any other support services you may have.

On-Call Overnight Monitoring (OOM)

On-Call Overnight Monitoring (OOM) provides overnight on-call support, accessible either on-site or off-site, guaranteeing supervision with personal tasks of daily living.

OOM is available seven days a week, including public holidays. Covering an eight-hour period, it incorporates up to one hour of active support throughout the duration of this timeframe.
