A mural with meaning: The Zone participants bring community artwork to life
A once blank wall at The Zone in Hobart, Tasmania has been transformed into a vibrant celebration of creativity, connection and inclusion thanks to a collaborative mural project between genU participants and local artist, Bec Adamczewski (Becski).
Designed and painted through a person-centred creative process, the mural reflects the voices, ideas and experiences of those who use The Zone. Participants worked alongside Bec to shape the artwork, beginning with an interactive workshop where they explored concepts, colours and themes that represented their community. Together, they selected a final design before bringing it to life over four days of painting.
The artwork draws inspiration from local landscapes, native wildlife and the sense of belonging that makes The Zone special. Importantly, the project was designed with accessibility at its heart, ensuring everyone who wanted to contribute could participate in a meaningful way.

For genU, the project was about far more than creating a visually striking space.
