Aloha spirit shines at the All Abilities Ball in Bunbury

The All Abilities Ball in Bunbury was a tropical triumph! A night where island vibes, vibrant colours and big smiles came together to celebrate community, connection and inclusion.

This much-loved annual event brought together nearly 150 guests – including participants, carers and community members – for an unforgettable evening filled with warmth, fun and friendship. Each year, the Ball continues to grow in popularity and impact, strengthening genU’s presence in the South West and deepening our connection with the wider community.

A stunning new home

This year, the Ball found a new home at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre (BREC) – and it proved to be the perfect setting! The BREC team went above and beyond to create an environment of true aloha spirit. From tailored meal options to seamless accessibility for guests using wheelchairs and walkers, every detail was thoughtfully considered so everyone could join in and feel at home.

Client-led magic

Our incredible client-led committee made the magic of the night possible. From selecting the venue and shaping the Hawaiian theme to designing vibrant table décor, curating the tropical menu and choosing the music, our clients made their mark on every detail. Think bright tropical colours, floral leis and island-inspired touches at every turn.

Guests were thrilled – one person even called it the “best Ball yet!” Another client summed up the joy of the evening perfectly:

“I had so much fun my feet hurt from dancing - when can we do it again?”

More than just a ball

For many guests, the ball is more than a party. It’s a chance to dress up, enjoy hair and makeup pampering, and dance the night away with friends old and new. This year, the dance floor was alive for four hours straight – a true testament to the energy and joy in the room.

Even with a few last-minute arrivals, our team and clients embraced the spirit of aloha, welcoming everyone with warmth and flexibility so that no one felt left out. This adaptability is at the heart of genU’s inclusive community culture.

A celebration of belonging

The All Abilities Ball isn’t just an event on the calendar – it’s a celebration of belonging. It brings together clients, families, staff and local supporters in a shared experience that uplifts and unites. It also highlights genU’s unwavering commitment to creating meaningful social opportunities for people living with disability in regional areas.

With a focus on inclusion, community and connection, we design our recreational and social programs to empower you.
