genU Allied Health graduates complete 12-month program and continue their journey

The genU Allied Health team recently came together at the genU Support Hub in Highton to celebrate the successful completion of the 12-month Allied Health Graduate Program.

The morning tea marked an important milestone for the graduates, who will now continue their professional journey with genU beyond the structured graduate year, building on the strong foundations developed throughout the program.

Allied Health Operations Manager, Lyndal Rickard, praised the graduates for their dedication and growth throughout the program.

“Working with our Allied Health Graduate Team has been an absolute pleasure. Their willingness to seek feedback, support one another, and step bravely into new clinical situations has been truly inspiring. I am incredibly proud of the meaningful work they are completing with their NDIS participants and the real, tangible difference they are making in the lives of the people and families we support,” Lyndal said.

“Their compassion, dedication, and drive to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care reflects the very best of what allied health can offer, and it has been a privilege to walk alongside them in their development.”

The morning tea celebration was not only a moment to recognise the graduates’ hard work and dedication, but also a chance to hear from a special guest speaker Christy, or better known to the team as ‘Princess Rosie’, known for her vibrant personality, market stall ventures, and love for the Australian soap opera Neighbours. Princess Rosie shared her personal experiences with genU Allied Health services, highlighting the meaningful impact the team has had on her life, which served as a powerful reminder for those in attendance of the impact that high-quality, person-centred allied health services can have for individuals and recipients.

With the support of genU, she is learning to use a computer and is saving for her own, expanding her creativity and loom bracelet business with plans to sell at a market. She has also developed skills to manage daily life independently, including doing all of her own washing.

The graduates themselves reflected on their time in the program and the growth they’ve experienced.

Ruvimbo Sinamai, Behaviour Support Practitioner, shared:
“My time with the genU Grad Program has been incredible. From the beginning, the Allied Health team ensured we were supported and exposed to vast learning experiences across Occupational Therapy and Behaviour Support. I’m grateful for the opportunity to apply my university skills in real-world settings and work alongside participants to develop person-centred strategies. The program has strengthened my confidence in multidisciplinary collaboration and creating positive change for the families we support.”

 Dakshita, Behaviour Support Practitioner, said:
“My time with genU has been genuinely meaningful — starting the Graduate Program felt like the beginning of something special, and now, as I finish, I’m incredibly grateful for the guidance, support, and belief that have shaped my growth both personally and professionally. This journey has been more than a program to me; it has been a place where I’ve felt supported, encouraged, and inspired. It has shaped my outlook and equipped me with the skills to manage diverse tasks with confidence and efficiency. The support and nurturing atmosphere I received from everyone helped me step out of my comfortable cocoon and navigate different scenarios with greater assurance. I truly value the experiences and growth this journey has given me.”

Isabella Tassi, Behaviour Support Practitioner, added:
“My graduate program has been an incredibly transformative journey, both professionally and personally. From the very beginning, I felt supported through structured learning, reflective supervision, and meaningful hands-on experience. I was given the opportunity to develop my clinical skills, build confidence in complex situations, and work alongside a collaborative, passionate team who genuinely care about the people they support. Completing the program has reinforced my commitment to this work and strengthened my passion for creating positive, lasting change in the lives of the individuals and families I support.”

Cody Yeung, Dietitian, who was unable to attend the morning tea as she was abroad in Iceland, added:
“Joining genU through the Allied Health Graduate Program has been a wonderful start to my career. The program allowed us to explore different units within the organisation and become familiar with internal resources before stepping fully into our roles. Regular supervision and monthly graduate meetings provided continuous support throughout the year, helping us settle confidently into our work. It has been a privilege to begin my career here with such a supportive team and wonderful clients”

The celebration and guest address highlighted the importance of strong, person-centred allied health services, as well as the commitment of genU to supporting graduates as they transition into professional practice.

The program not only equips graduates with the skills, confidence and experience to thrive, but also ensures clients receive high-quality services delivered by passionate, competent practitioners.
