genU standing with community to honour family violence victims

genU has joined other major organisations in Geelong to honour the women and children who have tragically lost their lives due to family violence.

genU participated in the Geelong Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday 7 May, lighting up the Eastern Hub Community Centre, East Geelong, in purple in a show of support.

genU CEO Clare Amies said genU was united with the Geelong community in sending a clear message that everyone has a right to be and feel safe.

“This was an opportunity for our organisation to stand alongside other local organisations in support of efforts to end family violence,” Clare said.

“According to the statistics, people with disability and older Australians are among those demographics most impacted by family violence in Australia."

genU is acknowledging Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month throughout May with a series of activities to increase employees’ skills and confidence in responding to family violence disclosures. All genU employees are being encouraged to undertake Addressing Family Violence eLearning and will have the opportunity to attend a webinar titled, United against family violence: Building Safer communities together.

The Geelong Candlelight Vigil coincided with the annual National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day, which acknowledges the impact of family violence on our communities. The Candlelight Vigil was organised by Safe Steps and coordinated locally by Meli.
