International Day of People with Disability 2025

On 3 December 2025, we celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), a day dedicated to increasing awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

At genU, we know that IDPwD isn’t just a single day of reflection. It’s an opportunity to be part of creating an inclusive and diverse community for the 5.5 million people with disability in Australia.

This year, we’re celebrating IDPwD with Inclusion in Focus: A Week of Learning and Connection, a series of webinars and interactive online sessions held between Monday 1 to Friday 5 December 2025.

You can join up to three webinars this week to:

  • Learn from people with disability and sector experts from genU about the power of inclusion.
  • Gain practical skills and insights to apply in your community and workplace.
  • Connect with like-minded people and be part of a community built on empowerment and respect.

Join JobAccess for an engaging session on building more inclusive and productive workplaces through disability employment. Delivered by genU on behalf of the Australian Government, JobAccess provides free, practical support to help employers confidently hire and retain people with disability.

In this webinar, we’ll explore why disability inclusion makes good business sense, covering the benefits of diverse teams, the realities of workplace adjustments, and how these can often be low-cost or cost-free. You’ll also learn about government supports such as the Employment Assistance Fund, which provides financial assistance for workplace adjustments, and the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator, which partners with employers to make recruitment more accessible. Attendees will leave with practical insights, tools, and resources to take the next step toward a more inclusive workplace.

Unlocking Social and Economic Value: procuring Through Disability Social Enterprises

Date and time: Friday 5 December, 1-1.30pm (AEDT)

Presenters: Lisa Abbott – National Programs Manager, genU; Alex Wall – Social Enterprise Manager, genU

Learn how organisations can drive both social impact and business value by procuring goods and services from disability social enterprises. Also, gain insights into how inclusive procurement not only supports meaningful employment opportunities for people with disability but also enhances organisational reputation, innovation, and community engagement.

Through real-world examples, the session will highlight how organisations can integrate disability social enterprises into their supply chains without compromising on quality, efficiency, or cost. It will also examine the tangible benefits such as increased workforce diversity, improved stakeholder trust, and alignment with corporate social responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.

Join in on this discussion to gain tools to overcome perceived barriers and embed social procurement as a sustainable business practice that creates shared value for both the organisation and the broader community.

Whether you attend one session or join them all, this week is your opportunity to celebrate disability, inclusion, learning and connection.

Together, we can break down barriers and create environments where everyone feels supported and included. This IDPwD, let’s celebrate the power of learning and connection and commit to taking meaningful action that builds a more inclusive, informed and empowered genU community.
