Support at Home

At genU, we are a one-stop-shop for all your home care needs. Our supports extend across the nation, yet our supports lean into local knowledge, with more than 5,000 passionate staff working in a community near you.

As a multi-service provider, genU can handle all your home care needs under the one banner, so you don’t need to deal with multiple people or providers. We partner with local providers to help you get the best value from Support at Home funding, ensuring you’re supported with the right tools to stay independent at home.

genU can help you stay independent, active, and healthy in your own home under the government-funded Support at Home program.

New Aged Care Program

The Australian Government is introducing the Support at Home program from 1 November 2025, aiming to streamline and enhance in-home aged care services. This new model replaces the existing Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) programs, focusing on flexibility, transparency, and person-centred care.

At genU, we're here to help you get started with Support at Home, ensuring you understand and access the support available to maintain your independence at home.

Key Features of the Support at Home Program

Improved Access to Services

To ensure timely support for those who need it, the government is aiming to reduce average wait times for services to no more than 3 months by 1 July 2027. This means, it will take less than three months from the time you apply for Support at Home funding to the time you start to receive the funded supports.

Funding Classification System

Participants will be assessed into one of 10 funding classifications based on your means and support requirements:

  • 8 ongoing classifications
  • 2 short-term classifications

This system offers a tailored approach that's reflective of your individual circumstances, with the highest ongoing classification providing up to $78,000 per year in support.

The amounts for each classification are indicative and are subject to indexation.

Classification levelQuarterly budgetAnnual amount
1$2,674.18$10,697.72

Defined Service List

The program includes a clear list of services that may be available to you, categorised into:

🏥Clinical Care: such as nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy - Fully funded by the government

🚶 Independence Support: such as personal care, taking medications and transport - Moderate client contributions required of between 5-50%

🧹Everyday Living Assistance: such as cleaning, gardening, shopping and meal preparation - Higher client contributions may apply, from 17.5-80% of the costs

This structure provides clarity for participants and providers on available services for you.

Quarterly Budgets with Flexibility

Participants will receive a quarterly budget aligned with your funding classification. You can carry over up to $1,000 or 10% (whichever is higher) of unspent funds to the next quarter, offering flexibility in managing your care.

Transparent Pricing with Caps

Fees for services will be guided by government-set price caps being introduced in July 2026 to ensure affordability and prevent overcharging or unexpected fees.

Participant Contributions Framework

Under the new program, participants will contribute to the cost of some services based on their income and assets, using the Age Pension means test. Certain services will remain free of charge, and contributions will only apply to services received.

Assistive Technology and Home Modifications

A separate funding scheme provides upfront access to assistive technologies and home modifications, eliminating the need to save package funds for these supports.

Enhanced Restorative and End-of-Life Care

  • Restorative Care Pathway: Offers up to 12 weeks of intensive allied health support, doubling the current STRC duration.
  • End-of-Life Care Pathway: Provides priority access to services for those with less than 3 months to live, with up to $25,000 in additional support over 12 weeks.

How to access Support at Home services

1. Register with My Aged Care (MAC): Call 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au to begin the process.

You will be given a MAC referral code that will act as a reference for your application throughout the process. If you need assistance, genU can make the referral for you. If you’d like genU to be your provider, you can nominate us during your MAC assessment.

2. Assessment: Undergo a comprehensive in-person assessment in your home to determine your care needs and appropriate funding classification.

The My Aged Care team will contact you to schedule your assessment.

3. Support at Home eligibility and funding: Allocation of the amount of funding you receive and list of approved services

If the Support at Home assessment is successful, you will receive a notice of decision and you will be allocated to one of eight funding classifications. This will determine the amount of funding you receive and list of approved services.

4. Choose genU as your provider: Select genU to deliver your tailored care services, if you haven’t already done this.

We will set up a Client Service Agreement with you. If you need access to services we don’t currently provide in your area, we can source these for you through our trusted service partners.

5. Collaberate with your care Partner: Work with a dedicated Care Partner to develop and manage your care plan.

A Care Partner will be assigned to you to support you to get the best outcome from your aged care services. Care management includes care planning (developing care plans), service coordination (coordination with workers involved in service delivery), and monitoring and evaluation (ongoing care discussions).
